Reached by Pedro Álvares Cabral on 22 April 1500 and held for three centuries as a Portuguese colony, Brazil declared its independence in 1822 and became a republic in 1889 — a vast country of rainforest, savanna, and highland that grew into the largest nation of South America. High in the quartz-veined Chapada dos Veadeiros, above the town of Alto Paraíso, the land thins to the Crystal Veil, one of the most active resonant Doors left on Earth. In the lore of the severed Fifth Kingdom, Brazil is where the old magic refuses to stay buried — leaking into dreams, rumor, and roadside legend.

Some countries forgot the old magic. Brazil only learned to call it by other names.
