Biography
Sister Mabelle took her vows young, and not entirely for God. She came to Saint-Spire carrying an infant, a sealed trunk, and a warning from a brother who had vanished into the dark of a dangerous world — and she has guarded all three ever since.
To the abbey she is quiet, dutiful, easy to overlook. That is exactly how she likes it. Beneath the habit is a woman who has spent her whole adult life protecting a child the world would rather forget, asking no thanks and offering no explanation. She keeps her brother's secrets sealed away precisely because she does not understand them — and suspects that understanding them would be dangerous.
When the abbey's long-buried truths begin to wake, Mabelle will discover that the secrets she protected were never really about her brother at all.
