Biography
Mattheon grew up at Saint-Spire with no parents he could name and no past he could reach — and decided, early, that he would simply build a life worth more than the one he had lost.
A few years older than Leonarth, he is the louder of the two, the braver, the first through any door. Where Leonarth watches, Mattheon acts. Theirs is the kind of friendship forged in a place where the adults keep secrets and the children have only each other; he would follow Leonarth into anything, and has.
But the questions have begun to surface — about the trunk Sister Mabelle keeps locked away, about the dreams that are not quite dreams, about why an orphan with no history keeps feeling the pull of one.
Some of us weren't left behind. We were hidden. There's a difference — and it changes everything.
The truth waiting for Mattheon is larger and stranger than any orphan's daydream — and it will ask him to decide what kind of man he intends to be.
