Overview

Memory Reeds

Kind: Reed · Realm: Magicia · Status: Active

Tall, reed-like stalks growing along rivers and canals, Memory Reeds have hollow chambers that hum faintly in the breeze, producing tones that sound almost — but never quite — like words. Fishermen who work their waters claim the reeds sometimes repeat the voices of the drowned: a name, a warning, a phrase a dead man used to say, rising out of the green on a gust and gone again. Whether the reeds remember or only seem to, no one can prove. But the fiber spun from them takes a binding faithfully, and a vow tied in Memory-reed is famously hard to break — because, the saying goes, the reed does not forget.

The fishermen say the reeds remember the drowned. The reeds do not say otherwise.
