Overview

Mourning Lilies

Kind: Lily · Realm: Magicia / Earth · Status: Active

Black-petaled lilies that grow in clusters at crossroads and abandoned shrines, Mourning Lilies are the flowers of grief made visible. When touched, their petals turn briefly translucent, showing faint silhouettes of faces within — as if the flower were remembering who once stood there, at that crossing, at that shrine, in some sorrow now lost to time. They are the source of the Griefpearl, which accretes in the still water beneath them, and they are loved and feared in equal measure: to find a stand of Mourning Lilies is to find a place where someone, once, could not stop weeping — and where the ground, gently, has refused to forget.

Touch a petal, and it shows you a face the ground could not bring itself to forget.
