Ferns with fronds that feel like polished stone — cool, smooth, and faintly heavy — Stoneferns are unremarkable by day. But at night they slowly uncurl, revealing a soft luminescence glowing beneath each leaf, a pale green light that has no source anyone has ever found. They are said to grow only where an ancient death occurred, taking root in the memory of a loss the living have long forgotten, so that a stand of Stoneferns is, to those who know, a kind of grave marker the land made for itself. The reverent do not pick them. The wise do not sleep among them.
